ANS is a decentralized name service on the Algorand network. Similar to ENS, it allows users to register .algo domain names for wallet addresses. Users are then able to share their .algo names in lieu of wallet addresses for receiving payment and in other interactions.
ANS is a decentralized naming service designed for Algorand community. An Algorand smart contract is used to store names and govern the naming policy.
Algorand Name Service (ANS) is a decentralized name service built on Algorand Blockchain. Users can register human-friendly names and associate them to their wallet addresses. Further, the registered names can be resolved to Algorand wallet addresses in all future interactions. The goal of ANS is replace hard-to-remember wallet-addresses and multi-sig accounts with friendly names using Algorand Smart Contracts.
Initially, the prototype was developed during the Encode x Algorand Hackathon, where the team conceptualized the design of building a decentralized name service for Algorand ecosystem. The team went on to pitch in the hackathon finale event, and won second place in the overall hackathon.
