Born in Luton, Bedfordshire (England). His father worked in a factory, and his mother was very ambitious and wanted her son to become a respected person. Already at a young age, Arthur began to compose. At the age of 14, Hayley had to drop out of school. His parents did not have the money to pay for further education. True, they were able to pay for Arthur's typing and shorthand courses[1]. From 1934 to 1939 he worked as a clerk in London. He served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force from the outbreak of World War II in 1939 until 1947, after which he moved to Canada. After settling in Toronto, Haley worked in real estate, sales, advertising, and continued to write.
