August Ferdinand Möbius (born November 17, 1790 in Naumburg, and died September 26, 1868 in Leipzig) was a German mathematician and astronomer. He held citizenship in Germany and was educated at several institutions, including the University of Göttingen, Leipzig University, and Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg.
Throughout his career, Möbius was supervised by Johann Friedrich Pfaff as his doctoral advisor and trained several doctoral students, such as Hermann Hankel and Wilhelm Fiedler. Möbius had a child named Theodor Möbius. As a prominent figure in the field of mathematics and astronomy, August Ferdinand Möbius remains an important figure in the study of these disciplines.
