Chemical element with the atomic number of 48
Cadmium (chemical symbol - Cd, from Lat. Cadmium) is a chemical element of the 12th group (according to the outdated classification - the second group of the secondary subgroup, IIB), the fifth period of the periodic system of chemical elements of D. I. Mendeleev, with atomic number 48.
The simple substance cadmium (under normal conditions) is a soft malleable viscous transition metal of silver-white color. It is stable in dry air, in humid air an oxide film forms on its surface, preventing further oxidation of the metal. Cadmium and many of its compounds are poisonous.
