Canaan Partners is a venture capital firm based in Menlo Park, California. The firm focuses on investing in digital media, communications, mobility, enterprise, cloud computing, marketplaces, biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, digital health, medical technology, financial technology, frontier technology and diagnostics sectors.
Canaan Partners spun out of General Electric Capital in 1987.
Canaan invests in entrepreneurs they believe have visionary ideas. With $5 billion under management, a diversified fund and over 190 exits to date, Canaan has invested in many technology and healthcare companies over the past 30 years.
Part of Canaan Partners investment strategy is called Canaan Beta, where they set aside part of their latest fund for their youngest employees. In 2017, this amount was $20 million of their $800 million fund. The idea behind Canaan Beta is that the youngest employees may know about lucrative investment opportunities that older employees have no knowledge of.
