Anatoly Stepanovich KobetsDnipro State Agrarian and Economic University was founded on September 11, 1922 by the decision of the Education Department of the Ukrainian SSR on the basis of the Department of Zootechnics of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute as the Kiev Veterinary and Zootechnical Institute. Consisted initially of veterinary and zootechnical faculties. In 1930, on the basis of the zootechnical faculty, the Kiev zootechnical institute was created, which, by a decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR on April 19, 1934, was relocated to Dnepropetrovsk. M.A. Selekh became the director of the institute.
In October 1934, the Faculty of Agronomy was opened, which led to another renaming into the Dnepropetrovsk Agricultural Institute (DSHI). A year later, distance learning began to function at the Faculty of Agronomy and Zootechnics. Previously, until 1940, the work of the correspondence department was controlled by the Ukrainian Institute of Correspondence Education, whose functions were later transferred to the directorate of the DSHI.
During the period from 1920 to 1939, the institute trained 2,000 livestock specialists and agronomists, as well as about the same number of specialists in agricultural management. Of the students, 18 subsequently received the title of professor, 6 - doctors of science, 13 - candidates of science and 19 - associate professors.
