Dräger is a family-owned company operating in the fields of medical and safety technology. Founded in Lübeck, Germany, in 1889, Dräger has grown to have more than 14,500 employees worldwide and is present in over 190 countries around the globe. The company generated revenues of around 2.8 billion euros in 2019. Dräger has sales and service subsidiaries in over 40 countries with development and production facilities located in Germany, Great Britain, Sweden, South Africa, the USA, Brazil, the Czech Republic, and China.
Dräger products are used for many applications such as clinical, industrial, mining, firefighting, and rescue services. Dräger's medical products include anesthesia workstations, medical ventilation, patient monitoring, as well as ceiling supply units, IT solutions for the operating room, and gas management systems. Dräger offers safety products and services for integrated hazard management, in particular for personal protection and plant safety. This includes respiratory protection equipment, stationary and portable gas detection systems, professional diving equipment and systems, as well as alcohol and drug impairment detection.
The COVID-19 pandemic saw a significant worldwide increase in demand for Dräger's ventilators and personal protective equipment. To meet the high demand for these products Dräger expanded its production capacity. In a March 19th, 2020, press release the company announced their production facilities for respiratory masks in Sweden and South Africa were working at full capacity and that their current ventilator output is almost twice that of before COVID-19 outbreak. They are assessing methods to expand production capacities further.
