František Josef Gerstner (1756-1832) was a scientist and educator with various occupations, such as physicist, mathematician, astronomer, engineer, civil engineer, and teacher. Born in Chomutov on February 23, 1756, Gerstner held citizenship in the Habsburg Monarchy, Kingdom of Bohemia, and the Austrian Empire. He received his education at Charles University, and later, Gerstner guided the academic progress of doctoral student Bernard Bolzano. Gerstner passed away on July 25, 1832, in Mladějov.
