Gmail (from Google Mail , pronounced ji-mail ) is a free email service from Google . Provides access to mailboxes via the web interface and via POP3 , SMTP and IMAP protocols , as well as in the Gmail application on Android.
Users of this mail service receive a mail address in the gmail.com domain (such as username@gmail.com) and an alias in the googlemail.com domain ( username@googlemail.com) . On April 1, 2005, the size of the mailbox was increased from 1 to 2 GB, and since then this number has been constantly growing. On April 24, 2012, Google announced an increase in mailbox size from 7.5 GB to 10 GB to celebrate the launch of Google Drive. At the moment, 15 GB of data storage is available to users.
The Gmail web interface is entirely built on a browser -based scripting programming language JavaScript , which gives you features such as receiving commands from the keyboard , updating the page without reloading ( AJAX technology ), drop-down lists for selecting recipients. It is also possible to switch to an interface built only in HTML , the standard web page markup language that is supported by all browsers. When loading the web interface, the version of the browser is checked. In case the browser does not support all JavaScript instructions used, the web interface automatically switches to HTML mode, and the user is notified that the browser does not support all features.
