In-Zgmir (Arabic: إن زغمير) is a city and commune in southern Algeria, in the Adrar vilayet. It is part of the Zaviet-Kunta district.
Commune of In-Zgmir
The city is located in the eastern part of the vilayet, on the territory of one of the oases of the central Sahara, at a distance of approximately 1100 kilometers south-south-west (SSW) from the capital of Algiers.
The commune of In Zghmir borders the communes of Zawiet Kunta, Timokten, Saly and Umm el Asel (Tindouf vilayet). Its area is 5,690 km².
Climate
The climate of the city is characterized as hot arid (BWh in the Köppen climate classification). Precipitation during the year is practically absent (average annual amount - 7 mm). The average annual temperature is 26.1 °C
Population
According to the official 2008 census, the population of the commune was 16,185. The proportion of the male population was 51.41%, female - respectively 48.59%[2]. The literacy rate of the population was 69.9%. The literacy rate among men was 82.8%, among women - 55.9%. 4.2% of the inhabitants of In-Zgmir had a higher education, 12.1% had a secondary education.
