Jean-Baptiste Biot (April 21, 1774 – February 3, 1862) was a French mathematician, physicist, astronomer, civil engineer, and professor. Born and died in Paris, France, he held French citizenship.
Biot studied at the École Polytechnique and at École des ponts ParisTech. Throughout his career, he made notable contributions to several fields, including the Biot-Savart law, which is related to electromagnetism.
Jean-Baptiste Biot had one child, Édouard Biot. He also acted as the doctoral advisor for Alfred Des Cloizeaux and Charles-Eugène Delaunay.
