Russian theater and film director, theater artist.
Born in 1969. Graduated from the Rostov University, since 1994 he began to stage plays in the drama theaters of Rostov-on-Don.
Since 2000, he has been working in Moscow, where he made his debut at the Center for Drama and Directing with the play "Plasticine" based on the play by V. Sigarev. The author of many dramatic productions at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater, the branch of the Pushkin Theater, the Sovremennik Theater, the Oleg Tabakov Theater, the National Theater of Latvia.
He has staged operas at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Komische Oper in Berlin, the Stuttgart Opera, and the Zurich Opera House.
He worked a lot in film and television. Since 2006 Kirill Serebrennikov has been one of the art directors of the international festival-school "Territory".
Creator and artistic director of the Platform project (2011-2014). In 2012, Serebrennikov released an acting and directing course at the Moscow Art Theater Studio School, on the basis of which the Seventh Studio was created. Since August 2012, he has been the creator and artistic director of the Gogol Center. Winner of the Stanislavsky Prize, "Golden Mask", "Crystal Turandot", "TEFI", "Europe - a New Theatrical Reality", the main prize of the Rome Film Festival, winner of the Locarno Festival, "Kinotavr", Participant of the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival and many others.
In August 2018, Kirill Serebrennikov became a commander of the French Order of Arts and Literature.
