Born in Duluth, MN, Liz grew up in nearby Lakeville, attending Lakeville H.S. prior to the University of Minnesota, where she earned a degree in Sociology with a minor in Youth Studies, and later an M.A. in Sport Sociology. While competing for the Golden Gophers, Liz was a two-sport athlete, splitting her time on the track with the hardwood of the basketball gym, including an opportunity to play in the Final Four of the women's national basketball championship. Admittedly, Liz used to hate throwing the discus, but during her junior year of college, she began to appreciate and eventually love the event. After a few years away from the sport, Liz began throwing again in 2011, and since that time, she has earned a bronze in the 2013 US Championships, a spot on he 2013 World Championships team, and selected as an 2016 Olympic Alternate after finishing fourth at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. Liz treats each day as a gift. As she states, "I never know when it will be my last and, therefore, I try to make each day a unique experience and live it to the fullest." She also gives of her time to others, finding passion in working with throwers of all levels and ages. When not training at San Diego State University with her coach, Greg Garza, or competing on the world stage, she can be found spending time getting close to nature while hiking, relaxing with a good book at the beach, or starting her next craft project.
