Nikola of St. Petersburg, the Mountain Man, the Beast from the East - as soon as rivals and fans did not call Nikolai Valuev. The boxer finished his sports career and proved himself in the political field, becoming a Deputy of the State Duma of the 6th and 7th convocations.

Nikolay came to boxing late — at the age of 20, when other athletes already have solid experience. Oleg Shalaev became the first coach.The athlete developed rapidly. In six months Valuev has already passed the standards for the Master of sports. A few months of intense training — and a novice boxer entered the ring. The beginning of the sports biography was laid in 1993.The first fight took place in Berlin. Nikolai entered the ring against the American John Morton and won. In 1999 Valuev defeated Russian boxer Alexey Osokin and became the national heavyweight champion. The following year, the athlete won the title of RAV champion in a duel with Ukrainian Yuri Elistratov, nicknamed the Killer.Valuev won the intercontinental champion title in 2004 after meeting Richard Bango in the ring.A fight for the WBA World Heavyweight title was scheduled for December 2005 in Berlin. Nikolai's opponent was John Ruiz. At the end of 12 rounds, 2 of the judges were on Valuev's side, the 3rd voted for a draw. As a result, the heavyweight champion belt went to a Russian for the first time. In 2006, in a fight against a native of Jamaica, Owen Beck, the Russian defended the title with honor, and a year later repeated the result, speaking against Jamil McClain.Nikolai had one of the best fights in his sports career in 2009 with Englishman David Haye, but lost. The opponent almost knocked out the Russian athlete. The media reported that Valuev, due to problems with knee joints, is close to the end of his career. Initially, the boxer denied the rumors, but soon this information was confirmed.In 2010, Vitali Klitschko challenged Valuev to a duel, but the fight between two outstanding athletes did not take place. The fans still regret it. A year later, Nikolai announced that he was ending his career.
According to statistics, the Russian boxer had 53 fights in the ring, 50 of which ended with the victory of Nikolai. Unique physical data, height and arm span allowed to achieve amazing results in the ring. Fans remember the tournament, during which Valuev just stood with his arm outstretched, not letting the opponent get close. The opponent had no choice but to admit his own defeat. It was a fight against American Evander Holyfield.

Nikolai has repeatedly starred in advertisements for power tools, MTS, and even was the face of large-sized sausages from a German sausage manufacturer.
