Sixth AP Fund (Sjätte AP-fonden) or AP6 is a Swedish Pension Fund managing portion of the capital deposited in the income-based pension system. It invests directly in unlisted companies by buying shares and indirectly by investing in a fund, which in turn invests in unlisted companies.
AP6 is a closed fund, there is no inflow or outflow of capital from the pension system. In 1996, it received SEK 10.4 billion as fund capital. And had grown to SEK 34.7 billion at year-end 2018-19 from profits that it continuously reinvested.
The fund has a mandate to generate high returns over the long term and to maintain satisfactory risk diversification. It follows that profits are reinvested and that any losses must be covered by the fund capital.
AP6 is part of the PRI Leaders' Group in 2019. Principles for Responsible Investing, PRI, is a standalone organization whose operations are based on UN Principles for Responsible Investment.
