Terence Trent D'Arby, also known by the pseudonyms Sananda Francesco Maitreya and Terence Trent D'Arby, is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and musician. Born Terence Trent Howard on March 15, 1962, in New York City, he holds citizenship in the United States. D'Arby is known for working in the music industry, with a focus on genres such as contemporary R&B, soul music, funk, and pop music.
D'Arby attended DeLand High School and later, the University of Central Florida. In addition to being a singer and guitarist, he has also worked as a songwriter and musician.
