The Million Dollar Homepage is a one million pixel website that is divided into 100 pixel blocks to be sold as permanent advertising space. The last 1,000 pixels of the advertising space were sold four months after the launch of the site for $38,100 on EBay.
Companies and businesses looking to advertise online could purchase 10 by 10 blocks of space of the website. They would receive the space and could choose the font and colors to be used for their logo. The advertising space could also be embedded with a URL link to the their own company's website. Most of the companies that were seeking the advertising space are located in the United Kingdom or the United States. Types of businesses that bought space on The Million Dollar Homepage include casinos, coupon websites, car leasing companies, and clothing stores.
As of 2019, 1,780 of the 2,816 embedded links were reachable. The remaining links are either unreachable or redirect users to a different web site.
