Environmental policy
Progress in the field of ecology is regularly visible throughout the group. The goal is to have an independently verified and certified quality, environmental and safety management system at each Tikkurila site. Progress towards the set development goals at the regional and global levels is monitored through key indicators. Since 2010, reports have been compiled in accordance with the international GRI guidelines.
It was only in the 1970s that environmental issues began to receive real attention. The Monicolor plant, built in 1975, became the very first paint and varnish production in the world [source not specified 1770 days]. The closed manufacturing process and computer control have reduced the emission of solvent fumes. Since 1993, all emissions from the Vantaa plants have been catalytically treated.
In addition to the EU directive, various certification programs have contributed to environmental protection activities. In May 1991, the Vantaa plant received the ISO 9001 (10) quality certificate. Currently, all the concern's plants in Russia operate in accordance with the ISO 9001:2000 standard.
