Ukrainian Premier League - Ukrainian football championship among men's teams; is held among the football clubs-participants of the Association of Professional Football Clubs of Ukraine "Premier League" - the strongest league of Ukrainian football. It is the Association of Professional Football Clubs of Ukraine "Premier League" that holds the championship (starting from the 2008/2009 season, when this right was delegated to it by the Ukrainian Football Association . From the first championship of Ukraine to the 2007/2008 season inclusive, football clubs participating in the championship, belonged to the Major League .
The championship is held in two rounds according to the "autumn-spring" system. There are currently 16 clubs in the competition. After each season, the teams that finished 15th and 16th are relegated directly, their places are taken by the 1st and 2nd places of the First League , while the 13th and 14th places compete for a place in the UPL from 3- th and 4th team of the First League.
The first league championship was held in 1992 . The first championships were held under the auspices of the Ukrainian Football Association , then they were held by the Professional Football League of Ukraine . Starting from the 2008/2009 season and up to the present, they are held by the Association of Professional Football Clubs of Ukraine "Premier League" .
