Vålerenga Football is the alliance sports team Vålerengens Idrettsforening 's (VIF) elite investment in football for men, established in 1989. Football has been part of VIF since the club was founded on July 29, 1913 . With increased financial investment in football came the need to establish a separate department for this investment. This is to protect the parent team's work with children's and youth sports, which is largely based on volunteering, and to separate this from the professional part of the sports team, which may be exposed to a financial deficit.
The club has its origins in the district Vålerenga on the eastern edge of Oslo , and has since its inception won five Norwegian league championships and four cup championships .
Vålerenga's football commitment has had two periods of greatness, first in the 1960s and then in the 1980s . In the 1960s, Vålerenga was known for its many colorful player types and offensive playing style, and thus got the nickname " Bohemians ". In the next period of greatness in the eighties, however, Vålerenga was known for its tight defensive organization, under the leadership of the Swede Gunder Bengtsson.
Vålerenga's supporter group is called Klanen and in 2016 numbered around 7,200 paying members.
Vålerenga Football plays the home games at Intility Arena. The club has previously had Ullevaal Stadium and Bislett Stadium as home courts.
