Yasujirō Ozu (おづ やすじろう) was a Japanese film director, screenwriter, production designer, and filmmaker . Born in Tokyo on December 12, 1903, he held citizenship in Japan and was educated at Waseda University . Ozu worked under the pseudonyms Ernst Schwartz, James Maki, and Shūtarō Komiya . He is known for his work in the Shomin-geki genre and directed films such as Equinox Flower, Late Spring, and Tokyo Story .
Throughout his career, Yasujirō Ozu directed numerous notable films, including Sword of Penitence, Lost: A Wife, I Was Born, But..., Treasure Mountain, Tokyo Chorus, Until the Day We Meet Again, Woman of Tokyo, Dragnet Girl, A Mother Should be Loved, Passing Fancy, A Story of Floating Weeds, An Inn in Tokyo, The Only Son, What Did the Lady Forget?, Brothers and Sisters of the Toda Family, There Was a Father, Record of a Tenement Gentleman, A Hen in the Wind, The Munekata Sisters, Early Summer, The Flavor of Green Tea over Rice, Tokyo Twilight, Good morning, Floating Weeds, Late Autumn, The End of Summer, and An Autumn Afternoon .
Ozu received several awards and recognitions for his work, including honors from the Berlin International Film Festival, Kinema Junpo Awards, Blue Ribbon Awards, British Film Institute Awards, Faro Island Film Festival, Mainichi Film Awards, and Online Film & Television Association . He passed away in Bunkyō on December 12, 1963 .
