Founded in 1969 as a silicon valley startup by Jerry Sanders and seven of his colleagues from Fairchild Semiconductor, AMD is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, with facilities in Canada, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, China, and other locations worldwide. On January 20th, 2009, Qualcomm announced the acquisition of handheld graphics and multimedia assets from AMD.
In 2020, AMD's revenue amounted to $9.76 billion; the company set a record with a net income of $2.49 billion. AMD's research and development spending in 2020 was $1.98 billion.
