Aishwarya Bachchan Rai, born November 1, 1973, in Mangalore, Karnataka state, India, is an actress in Bollywood. She attended Arya Vidya Mandir High School in Mumbai, where her family had relocated. Her intermediate education took place at Jai Hind College for a year before she enrolled at D.G. Ruparel College in Matunga.
Rai then spent five years studying classical dance and music. In 1994, she was getting an education in architecture when she was crowned Miss World. This began her modeling career. In 2003, she became a spokesmodel for L’Oréal Paris.
In 2002, she played the character Paro in Devdas, a Bollywood film shown at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2003, she starred in Chokher Bali, a drama based on a novel by Rabindranath Tagore. In the same year, she served on the Cannes Film Festival jury. Rai appeared in Gurinder Chadha’s Bride and Prejudice, a musical and dance adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. She then acted in Dhoom: 2 in 2006 and Provoked in English.
