Aleksei Gubarev was born on March 29, 1931, and held citizenship in the Soviet Union and later Russia. He was an accomplished aircraft pilot, astronaut, and writer. Gubarev was educated at the Gagarin Air Force Academy.
Throughout his life, Gubarev received numerous awards, including the Hero of the Soviet Union, Pilot-Cosmonaut of the USSR, and Order of Lenin. He was also honored with the Medal "For Merit in Space Exploration", Medal "For the Development of Virgin Lands", and Hero of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. In addition, Gubarev received awards like the Order of Klement Gottwald, Medal "For Strengthening Military Cooperation", Medal of Sino-Soviet Friendship, and Medal Brotherhood in Arms.
Aleksei Gubarev passed away on February 21, 2015, in Moscow.
