Alto Pharmacy is a San Francisco-based health technology start-up which has a platform that aids users with coordinating with physicians and insurance companies so that they can receive their medications. Its stated goal is to be the most patient-centric pharmacy.
The company's platform can be accessed through a mobile application. Users can have their healthcare providers send their prescriptions to Alto Pharmacy or send their prescriptions themselves. The platform coordinates with the user's insurance providers and once everything has been approved, the prescription is delivered to the user's home. If there should be an issue with getting the medication covered by the health insurance company, Alto Pharmacy attempts to give suggestions for alternative medications that would be covered by the user's health insurance.
Inside the actual Alto Pharmacies themselves, there is more technology. The company has a machine called "Hazel", which is used to dispense medications quickly so that they can be verified by a pharmacist. Another machine at the pharmacies is called "Henry", which divides and labels the medications for each user so they know when and how to take each medication.
