Israeli computer scientist (1941–2009) researching temporal logic, model checking, and concurrent systems
Amir Pnueli (22 April 1941 – 2 November 2009) was an Israeli computer scientist, engineer, and mathematician. He was born in Nahalal, Israel, and held citizenship in that country. Pnueli was educated at two leading institutions: Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and Weizmann Institute of Science. He later moved to the United States, where he passed away in New York City.
Pnueli's main area of expertise was computer science, and he had significant contributions in the field. His work under the guidance of his doctoral advisor, Chaim L. Pekeris, led him to train several doctoral students of his own, including Mordechai Ben-Ari, Dov Dori, and Yi Fang.
Throughout his career, Pnueli received several accolades for his work, including the prestigious 1996 Turing Award.
