Andre Cronje is a software developer in the decentralized finance (DeFi) and cryptocurrency industries. He is considered a pioneer in the DeFi ecosystem and is often referred to as the "Father" or "Godfather" of DeFi. In 2020, he created yearn.finance and Keep3rV1. He has also participated in other DeFi projects, including Hegic, Pickle, Cover, PowerPool, Cream V2, Akropolish, and Sushiswap. In November 2022, he returned to the Fantom Foundation, which he co-founded as a technical architect.
Andre Cronje began working on the yearn.finance protocol in January 2020 to build a simple, user-friendly application for yield farming. In February 2020, he released the first instance of his yearn.finance yield farming aggregator. The protocol runs on the Ethereum blockchain using smart contracts, and users can earn interest on their cryptocurrency holdings, trade, and borrow. He funded and developed the protocol by himself.
Andre Cronje released Keep3rV1 in October 2020. Keep3rV1 or Keep3r Network is a registry designed to match organizations and other entities with technical professionals, known as Keepers, who can perform routine tasks such as collecting yield farming harvests.
Andre Cronje studied law at Stellenbosch University in South Africa from 2001 to 2003. He then studied computer science at the CTI Education Group in 2005, completing a three-year course in five months.
