Biography
In the transnational ranking of boxers, Andy Ruiz was awarded the 1st line as the owner of numerous titles and the best acting heavyweight. The American athlete of Mexican origin is highly rated in magazine ratings and occupies one of the leading places according to the versions of the Ring and BoxRec publications.
Childhood and youth
Andreas Andy Ponce Ruiz was born on September 11, 1989 in the family of a builder who emigrated from Mexico to the United States in his youth. After settling in California, the older generation got into the real estate business, and soon the father achieved success by reselling restored houses. As a child, Andy Ruiz Jr. was passionate about baseball, and many believed that he could distinguish himself in the national American game. The boy and his friends arranged matches on improvised playgrounds located on the school grounds and in the yard closest to the house.Parents did not like the hobby of their son, who, while training, destroyed things, and one day they decided to send him to amateur boxing. At the initial stage, the little Mexican was engaged with local mentors and selflessly pounded on toys made of old wheels.
The first match of the future champion took place at the age of 7, but fans still do not know whether he won or lost. Later, training continued in Mexicali, a city on the border with California, where my paternal grandfather had his own gym.
However, Ruiz did not immediately decide to become a professional boxer and for some time after graduation he worked at a company owned by the family. However, the height of almost 190 cm and the weight approaching 130 kg made me think about my future biography and not stay away from sports.
Box
Starting his amateur career, Andy, who was distinguished by a heavy physique, was a dangerous opponent in the ring and won 105 victories. He participated in the selection for the Olympic Games in Beijing, but, despite his efforts, he did not get a lucky ticket. In mid-2009, in the status of the national champion of Mexico, Ruiz entered the professional ring for the first time in a fight with Miguel Ramirez. The defeat of an opponent by a Mexican boxer with a handspan of 188 cm was worthy of appearing on the pages of educational books.Over the next four years, Andy's statistics were replenished with victories, and among the defeated athletes were Omero Fonseca and Maurenzo Smith. The triumphant, who reinforced the fighting spirit with Snickers bars, carefully worked on the muscles and acquired an intimidating appearance. This helped to prepare for the meeting with the first serious opponent and to deal with Joe Hanks in 2013. From the beginning of the fight, Ruiz dominated the pumped-up American, and a technical knockout in the 4th round showed a serious attitude to the fight.
In this match, held at the sports arena in Macau, Andy won the prestigious WBO Intercontinental Champion title. Soon the title of the best boxer of the North American Association was added to him, who resisted in a fight with Manuel Quesada, which ended with a TKO.Until 2016, Ruiz did not suffer a single defeat, defeating such rivals as Sergey Lyakhovich, Joell Godfrey and Rafael Zumbanu. But he could not cope with Joseph Parker, who won the fight for the world belt, and did not appear in the ring for 14 months, considering plans and future fate.
After the break, Andy decided to compete for the prestigious award again and defeated Kevin Johnson and Alexander Dimitrenko in professional passing fights. And on June 1, 2019, in a battle with Australian Anthony Joshua, the Mexican became a world champion and shared his joy on social networks.
Famous boxers, including the legendary Mike Tyson, had no doubt that the loser would demand a rematch. A new meeting of heavyweights was actively discussed in the press, and a photo announcement on Ruiz's Instagram caused a real stir.
In December 2019, in the long-awaited title fight, Anthony Joshua took away all the titles and belts from Andy. After the fight, which took place in Riyadh, Ruiz said that he had not trained enough, so the ambitious Australian was able to work miracles in the ring. The boxer noted that now it is necessary to get rid of excess weight and, having drawn conclusions from the defeat, to return to the game with renewed vigor. Fans hope that the idol will again get into the company of applicants and demonstrate results in 2020.
