Annual Wellness Visit software (AWV software for short) refers to online software for Medicare patients that allows for AWVs to be conducted remotely.
Annual Wellness Visits are a yearly visit available to patients who have been under Medicare Part B for at least twelve months. Doctors conduct AWVs in order to create or update personalized prevention plans to help avert disease or disability. Common aspects of AWVs include a cognitive assessment to check for Alzheimer's disease or dementia, depression and other mood disorders, as well as filling out a Health Risk Assessment (HRA).
The cost of AWVs is typically covered entirely by Medicare Part B, as long as a patient's doctor accepts "assignment," meaning the doctor, provider, or supplier agrees to be paid directly by Medicare for the service. Despite this, relatively few patients go to AWVs, with a national study by the American Medical Group Association finding that less than 20 percent of eligible Medicare patients received an AWV in 2016.
AWV software allows doctors to conduct these yearly wellness checks and develop preventative plans with their patients online. With many AWV software, patients are able to complete the Health Risk Assessment and update their personal information via an online form. Doctors are then able to deliver personalized prevention plans digitally on the same platform. Often times, AWV software is cloud based and can be accessed by patients from a computer or iOS or Android device. AWV software aims to increase turnout to AWVs by making the process easier and less time consuming for both Medicare patients and doctors, as well as increase revenue for doctors and healthcare providers.
