Arbiom was founded in 2012, and is located in Durham, North Carolina. Arbiom is developing technologies that allow for agricultural and forestry products and residues to be converted into useful intermediates for the production of biofuels, materials, chemicals, and animal feeds. Technologies and processes developed by Arbiom allow the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into glucose, xylose, and lignin. Lignocellulosic biomass is converted into desired products through a phosphoric acid-based and enzymatic hydrolysis process.
The company makes an enhanced Torula high protein single-cell yeast product called SylPro, that is approved for use in feed and food in the United States, Canada, and the European Union. SylPro fits definitions for Torula yeast set by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), and the European Union. SylPro is made through the bio-conversion and fermentation of wood using "wood-to-food" technology developed by Arbiom.
