Artie Shaw, born Arthur Jacob Arshawsky, was an American musician, bandleader, composer, writer, and music arranger. He was born on May 23, 1910, in New York City, and was a United States citizen. Shaw was educated at Hillhouse High School. He was known for his work in the music industry, particularly in the genre of jazz. Artie Shaw passed away on December 30, 2004, in Thousand Oaks, California. Throughout his career, Shaw received various accolades, including the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
