Astrocast is an end-to-end satellite IoT network provider, manufacturer, and operator. The company's network is designed to provide coverage across the planet, without geographical limitations. The network consists of miniaturized satellites and collects data that is delivered to ground stations through bi-directional low-power modules, and in turn distributed for customer access through a secure platform. Astrocast has partnerships with Airbus, CEA/LETI, the European Space Agency, and Thuraya, in order to develop and deploy the company's nanosatellite constellation.
The Astrocast Network is an 80 nanosatellite network that works to offer global, low latency transmission. The nanosatellites in the constellation are equipped with propulsion and deorbiting to offer greater control of the network and the ability to avoid collisions with space debris. The network also works to offer extra capacity and redundancy of critical components to create a controlled lifetime of up to five years.
The nanosatellites deployed by Astrocast are 5kg nanosatellites, orbiting in low-Earth orbit, sun-synchronous orbits, and equatorial orbits. The satellites have a planned three- to five-year lifetime in order to provide stable performance and allow new features to be added to the network. The satellites carry Astrocasts chipset and module, which is a low-power L-band chipset integrated into the Astronode S module optimized for direct-to-satellite IoT applications. This can be used with different antennas dependent on applications. These satellites also offer low latency and bidirectional communication.
The Astronode S is Astrocast's bidirectional low-powder IoT module for the company's customers. The small size of the module is intended to allow for embedded applications. The Astronode S operates on the L-Band frequency range, allowing for the use of small antennas that work reliably in all weather conditions.
Astrocast also offers a developer's kit with the Astronode S architecture in order to help customers develop connections and test integrations with Astrocast's IoT nanosatellite network. The DevKit offers a software development environment that includes access to APIs and portals and works to help users develop applications with the Astronode S.
