Austin FC is an American professional soccer club based in Austin, Texas. The club was founded in 2018 and plays in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the Western Conference. The team played its first game on June 19, 2021.
Austin FC is the first top-division major professional sports team in the Austin, Texas, area. The club's head coach and former MLS player, Josh Wolff, was announced on July 23, 2021.In November 2021, Claudio Reyna, former professional soccer player, was announced as the sporting director.
Austin FC plays their home matches at Q2 Stadium in the North Burnet section of North Austin, at McKalla Place near The Domain, a large, outdoor shopping complex. The stadium seats 20,500.
Austin FC is owned by the group Two Oak Ventures, LLC. The group is a fairly new group and replaced Precourt Sports Ventures. The company is a privately held investment and management firm focused on the sports and entertainment business.
Minority owner of Austin FC and award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey earned the title of Minister of Culture—a title he also earned as a fan and supporter of the University of Texas. McConaughey joined Austin FC's ownership in 2019.
