Azuki is a non-fungible token (NFT) brand that was designed through anime inspiration. The initial NFT collection was launched in January 2022, and its 8,700 different NFTs sold out within minutes. Chiru Labs, a Los Angeles-based company, is behind the Azuki products and projects. The Auki team calls themselves the "skaters of the Internet," meaning that much like skaters in the physical world, they push boundaries and challenge the status quo, only in the world of web.
The initial Azuki collection was a collection of 10,000 NFT avatars, with the aforementioned 8,700 sold on OpenSea and LooksRare and the remaining 1,300 minted by the whitelist. The NFTs are a side profile view of human-like avatars with accessories and features that are seen in anime.
Holders of Azuki NFTs are granted special access to a space called "The Garden." It is a collaborative space on Web3 and allows the holders to access special Azuki drops, streetwear, live events, and more.
Azuki launched another collection of NFTs in April 2022. It is called Azuki Beans, and these NFTs are described as "sidekicks" for the original collection. They are designed to look like azuki beans (small red beans also called red mung beans) that are dressed in clothing that skaters would wear, such as hoodies and beanies. They are paired with the holder's original Azuki NFT, and a story with the NFTs evolves over time.
Azuki released its token in October 2022. It is a physical-backed token (PBT) and is an open-source token standard on the Ethereum blockchain that is connected to a physical item. It enables holders to authenticate physical goods by scanning them with their phones to mint or claim their tokens.
