UNICS is a Russian basketball club based in Kazan . Plays in the VTB United League and the Euroleague .

History

Basketball club UNICS was founded in 1991. The first head of the club was the honored worker of physical culture of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Russian Federation Alexander Shcherbakov. The team started playing in the First League of the Russian Championship . It took several years to form a gaming team. Since 1994, successively from season to season, moving from league to league, in 1997 she won the right to play in the Super League of the Russian Championship . In 1998 and 1999, the team took 5th place in the Russian championship. Since December 1998, Evgeny Borisovich Bogachev , chairman of the National Bank of the Republic of Tatarstan, has become the president of the club. In 2000, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, UNICS became the bronze medalist, and in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2016 - the silver medalist of the Russian championships. Since January 1999 to June 2000 the head coach of the team is Evgeny Kovalenko, Master of Sports of International Class, Honored Coach of Russia. From June 2000 to June 2006, the head coach of the team was Stanislav Eremin, Honored Master of Sports, Honored Coach of Russia. Since June 2006, the head coach of UNICS is the honored coach of Lithuania Antanas Sireika. Since December 2007 - Serbian specialist Aco Petrovich. Since June 2009 - Honored Coach of Lithuania Valdemaras Chomicius. From June 2010 to June 2012 the head coach of the team - Honored Master of Sports, Honored Coach of Russia Evgeny Pashutin. Since July 2012, Aco Petrovich has taken over the team again. Since February 2013, the head coach of the team is Stanislav Eremin, Honored Master of Sports, Honored Coach of Russia. Since June 2013 – Andrea Trinchieri (Italy). Greek specialist Argyris Pedoulakis took over the team in June 2014. In November 2014 Evgeny Pashutin returned to the post of head coach.

UNICS players Ruslan Avleev and Alexander Petrenko took part in the final stage of the 1999 European Championship. Ruslan Avleev, Evgeny Pashutin, Valentin Kubrakov played at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. In the final stage of the 2001 European Championship, Evgeny Pashutin, Pyotr Samoilenko, Anton Yudin performed. At the World Championship - 2002 - Igor Kudelin. In the final stage of the 2003 European Championship, Peter Samoylenko and Valentin Kubrakov played. UNICS basketball player Eurelius Zhukauskas won the 2003 European Championship title as part of the Lithuanian national team. At the 2006 World Championship, the UNICS brothers Lavrynovych played in the Lithuanian national team. At the 2007 European Championship, UNICS basketball player Nikolai Padius became the champion of the continent as part of the Russian national team, Dariusz Lavrynovic won the bronze medal with the Lithuanian national team. Another basketball player of our club, Tarik Kirksey (France), played at this championship. UNICS players Marko Popovic and Kresimir Loncar (Croatian national team) took part in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. They also played in the final stage of the 2009 European Championship. Marko Popovic (Croatia) and Hasan Rizvich (Slovenia) played at the 2010 World Championship in Turkey. Henry Domerkant (Bosnia) participated in the 2011 European Championship. Dmitry Sokolov (Russia), Kostas Kaymakoglu, Nikos Zisis (both Greece) participated in the 2013 European Championship. At the 2014 World Championship Costas Kaymakoglu, Nikos Zisis participated in Spain. UNICS players participated in the 2015 European Championship: Anton Ponkrashov (Russia), Kostas Kaimakoglu (Greece), Arturas Milaknis (Lithuania).

Basket Hall (Kazan)

Basket Hall

On August 29, 2003, the largest specialized Basketball Palace in Russia , the Basket Hall , was put into operation in Kazan . The capacity of the main arena is 7500 spectators, the small arena is 1500 spectators. In 2005, a suburban sports base for UNICS was built in the village of Vasilyevo, 30 km from Kazan .

Before the opening of the Basket Hall, the home arena was the eponymous university cultural and sports complex (KSC) UNICS .
