Bankinter Capital Riesgo is the venture capital arm of Madrid-based Bankinter. It was established in 2001 and is located in the same city as its parent company. Bankinter Capital Riesgo invests in a wide variety of sectors, including software, healthcare, biotechnology, food, and multimedia. It invests in companies at any stage of the development process, including early, late, growth, and buyout.
Since its inception, the firm has invested in over fifty companies and has had seven exits, including PayPal, Photoslurp, and Declarando. It usually makes larger investments, beginning at approximately $1,000,000, and has made investments as large as $20,000,000.
Bankinter Capital Riesgo partnered with Fundación Innovación Bankinter in 2013 to launch a program that identifies and invests in high-potential start-ups. The program has invested in more than forty companies in the technology sector. This program invests in companies based out of Spain, Portugal, and Ireland that are in their seed and Series A stages of funding. The program also offers start-ups financial and business advice from the team that operates the program.
