Barbara Liskov, born on November 7, 1939 in Los Angeles, is a United States citizen and a renowned computer scientist and engineer. She is known for her work in distributed computing. Liskov completed her education at Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley. Currently, she is based in the United States.
John McCarthy, a fellow computer scientist, was Liskov's doctoral advisor. Throughout her career, she has guided doctoral students, such as Maurice Herlihy, Andrew Myers, Umesh Maheshwari, and Winnie Cheng.
Liskov's dedication to her field has been recognized with several prestigious awards. She received the 2008 Turing Award, the Harold Pender Award, and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2012.
