Basil Dearden was a film director, film producer, and screenwriter from the United Kingdom. Born Basil Clive Dear in 1911 in Westcliff-on-Sea, he directed numerous films throughout his career.
Some of the films directed by Basil Dearden include The League of Gentlemen, Masquerade, The Blue Lamp, The Assassination Bureau, and The Goose Steps Out. He was also the director of My Learned Friend, The Smallest Show on Earth, Victim, The Captive Heart, and The Mind Benders.
Dearden continued to direct various films throughout his career, such as The Black Sheep of Whitehall, I Believe in You, Woman of Straw, The Man Who Haunted Himself, and The Bells Go Down. His work also includes directing The Ship That Died of Shame, The Gentle Gunman, Only When I Larf, The Halfway House, and Saraband for Dead Lovers.
In addition to his extensive directing career, Basil Dearden directed films such as Who Done It?, Out of the Clouds, The Square Ring, Train of Events, The Rainbow Jacket, and They Came to a City. He also directed A Place to Go, Life for Ruth, Violent Playground, The Secret Partner, and Cage of Gold.
Basil Dearden passed away in London on March 23, 1971. He is the father of James Dearden, who also became a film director.
