Jipcho had an illustrious career, earning several medals and awards. In the 1974 Christchurch Commonwealth Games, he won gold medals for the 5000 m and the 3000 m races. He also received a bronze medal in the 1500 m race at the same games. At the 1973 Lagos All-Africa Games, he secured gold medals in both the 5000 m and the 3000 m steeplechase events. In recognition of his success, Jipcho was named the Track & Field Athlete of the Year in 1973.
