Benetton Group SpA is an Italian textile company founded in 1965 by Luciano, Gilberto, Giuliana and Carlo Benetton, based in Ponzano Veneto, Treviso province in Italy, a clothing manufacturer with a network of franchised stores worldwide selling goods of the following brands: United Colors of Benetton, Undercolors of Benetton and Sisley .
A branch of the Benetton Group also exists in Milan. Benetton is marked by a network of 6,000 stores in 120 countries. The warehouses are managed by independent partners and generate a turnover of more than 2 billion euros per year.
The main activity of the company is its own clothing lines. Casual clothing is sold under the United Colors of Benetton brand, and there are also fashion-oriented divisions Sisley and Playlife. The company's products include men's, women's and children's clothing and underwear, as well as toiletries, perfumes and household products such as kitchen utensils and products for children. Benetton Group is one of the most famous fashion companies in the world, present in the world's most important markets with a network of around 5,000 stores.
The Benetton Group received €983 million from sales of products from one of its brands, United Colors Of Benetton for Adults, representing 50% of their total sales in 2008. A further 30% of sales came from sales of United Colors Of Benetton for Children, a total of 589 million euros. And also 18%, or 358 million euros, was collected by the Sisley brand. The Playlife brand raised 43 million euros.
Benetton faced criticism from Mapuche organizations for his purchase of traditional Mapuche lands in Patagonia[7]. The families were evicted from their lands in 2002 following Benetton's claim against them, but the land was reclaimed in 2007.[8]
Benetton has raised suspicions that he uses RFID chips on clothing to monitor wearers. Boycott website claims that these chips "can be read from a distance and used to monitor people wearing them."
