Benoit Mandelbrot was a person born on November 20, 1924, in Warsaw. He held citizenship in Poland, France, and the United States. Mandelbrot passed away on October 14, 2010, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Mandelbrot was a mathematician, economist, professor, scientist, writer, computer scientist, and engineer. He was educated at Lycée du Parc, the California Institute of Technology, the University of Paris, and the Polytechnic School.
Mandelbrot's doctoral advisor was mathematician Paul Lévy. Among his doctoral students were Ken Musgrave, Murad Taqqu, Laurent-Emmanuel Calvet, and Eugene Fama.
He is best known for his notable works, including the Mandelbrot set and The Fractal Geometry of Nature.
