Cyclotron Road is a fellowship program based in Berkeley, CA that accelerates globally impactful and commercially viable technology projects from entrepreneurial scientists and engineers. The two-year program is a division of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, located at the University of California at Berkeley, and is managed as a partnership between the lab and Activate Global Inc., a non-profit. Since 2015, Cyclotron Road has awarded more than $18 million to its fellows, whose organizations have raised more than $315 million in follow-on funding.
Cyclotron Lab is one of four divisions in Berkeley Lab's Energy Technologies Area (ETA), which aims to provide better energy technologies and reduce adverse energy related environmental impacts through analysis, research and development. Cyclotron Road is headed by Division Director Rachel Slaybaugh, who also serves as an associate professor of nuclear energy at UC Berkeley, and Program Manager Melanie Sonsteng.
Applications for Cyclotron Road are typically open from mid-October until the end of November, with the fellowship itself typically starting at the end of June the following year.
