Billy Wright (footballer, born 1924) was a citizen of the United Kingdom and held occupations as a football player and manager (association football). He was born on February 6, 1924, in Ironbridge, and passed away on September 3, 1994, in the London Borough of Barnet.
Wright's entire professional football career was spent with Wolverhampton Wanderers, except for a World War II spell with Leicester City. As a player, he won the Football League First Division title three times (1953-54, 1957-58, 1958-59), the FA Cup in 1949, and was a finalist in the 1958 FA Super Cup with Wolverhampton. Additionally, he was part of the England national team that won the 1950 FA Super Cup. Wright was also the first footballer in the world to play 100 matches for his national team and served as the England team's captain for 13 years.
Throughout his career, Billy Wright received several accolades, such as being nominated for the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year in 1952, shortlisted for the Golden Ball (France Football) in 1957, and awarded as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1959. Posthumously, he was included in the list of 100 legends of the Football League in 1998 and became a member of the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
