Blox, formerly known as CoinDash, is an Israel-based company developing a non-custodial staking platform for Ethereum (ETH) called Blox Staking. It was founded in 2016, and the stated goal of the company is to provide a convenient and secure way to stake ETH and earn rewards while ensuring users retain complete control over their private keys. The company previously had another subsidiary in addition to its platform organization, called Blox Finance. It was acquired by Lukka in October 2021.
The Blox Staking platform can be used as a secure way to stake ETH and earn rewards. The platform is non-custodial so users keep both of their keys, making the user the person with the sole access to their own key.
There are three main components to the platform: the desktop app, KeyVault, and the infrastructure. To stake with Blox, users must first download the desktop app and set up a validator, which requires a cloud account, cryptocurrency wallet, and 32 ETH. KeyVault is a part of the platform that acts as a remote signer. It is powered by Hashicorp Vault, and it can be used to hold and manage the user's validator on the cloud of the user's own choosing. The infrastructure feature of the platform is called Infra, and it is a cluster of validators, Eth2 and Eth1 nodes that ensure communication to the KeyVault remote signers.
Blox has a native token called SSV, formerly known as CDT. It was converted to SSV in late 2022 and acts as a protocol that provides access to a decentralized staking ecosystem on the Ethereum blockchain.
