The company also manufactures combustion engines under the Rotax brand and sells clothing, parts, and accessories. The company was spun out of Bombardier in 2003 to develop and sell the company's portfolio of pleasure craft and recreational vehicles, as well as the parts, accessories, and clothing associated with those vehicles. Headquartered in Valcourt, Quebec, BRP operates manufacturing facilities in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Finland, Austria, and Australia. The products offered by BRP trace their history to 1937. As part of the spinout of BRP, Bombardier refocused the company's activities on aeronautics and rail industries.
Since its spinout, BRP has invested in research and development of their vehicles, setting up research centers in Valcourt which employs around 450 engineers and technicians. This work resulted in wins in major all-terrain rallies in Saudi Arabia and California.
