Boston Scientific Ventures is a Massachusetts-based organization that specializes in making investments in medical technology (MedTech) companies. It is a branch of the medical solution company Boston Scientific. It was launched in 2012, and according to its parent company's website, the venture arm has invested more than $1 billion into companies.
Boston Scientific Ventures invests in companies in the healthcare, medical device, biotechnology, and therapeutics industries. It makes investments in varying amounts for companies in different stages of growth. The organization states that it invests in early-stage and growth-stage MedTech companies. It has invested in more than sixty companies across the globe and has acquired companies that were originally its portfolio company.
In addition to providing funding to its portfolio companies, Boston Scientific Ventures often assigns a representative to be an active board member of the portfolio company. The organization also sometimes negotiates extra rights for the board member to negotiate or refuse an acquisition offer for the portfolio company.
