Carl David Anderson (1905-1991) was a physicist from the United States. He was born in New York City and died in San Marino, California. Anderson is known for his discovery of the positron and the muon.
Anderson pursued his education at John H. Francis Polytechnic High School before moving on to the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). As a physicist, Anderson's academic discipline was Physics, and he had the opportunity to work under the guidance of his doctoral advisor, Robert Andrews Millikan. Anderson played a significant role in the careers of his doctoral students Donald A. Glaser and Seth Neddermeyer.
Anderson's groundbreaking work in the field of physics was recognized with the prestigious 1936 Nobel Prize in Physics.
