Carl Djerassi (October 29, 1923 - January 31, 2015) was an Austrian-American chemist, writer, and scientist born in Vienna. He held citizenships in Austria, the United States, and Bulgaria . Djerassi is known for his work as a chemist, writer, scientist, and playwright.
Throughout his education, Djerassi attended various institutions, including the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Kenyon College, Wayne State University, Tarkio College, and the American College of Sofia . His doctoral advisor was George Rosenkranz.
Djerassi also contributed to the field of insect physiology and ecology. He was the founder of the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology . In 1978, Djerassi was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame .
Carl Djerassi lived a full life and passed away in San Francisco on January 31, 2015.
