Carl Icahn is the founder, chairman, and majority shareholder of Icahn Enterprises and the CEO of its subsidiary, Icahn Capital.
Icahn served as a special adviser to President Trump on regulatory reform until August 18, 2017. He resigned his position in a letter to Trump, stating one of his reasons for doing so as "because I did not want partisan bickering about my role to in any way cloud your administration."
Early life and education
Icahn was born in Brooklyn and is ethnically Jewish. He was raised in the Far Rockaway, Queens neighborhood of New York City, where he attended Far Rockaway High School.His father, Michael Icahn, a "sworn atheist", was a cantor, and later a substitute teacher. His mother, Bella (née Schnall) also worked as a schoolteacher.Icahn graduated from Princeton University with an A.B. in philosophy in 1957 after completing a senior thesis titled "The Problem of Formulating an Adequate Explication of the Empiricist Criterion of Meaning." He then entered New York University School of Medicine, but he dropped out after two years to join the military reserve force.
