Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin (10 5 1900 - 7 12 1979) was a British-American astronomer who made substantial contributions in the field of astrophysics. Born in Buckinghamshire, Payne-Gaposchkin held both United Kingdom and United States citizenship. She pursued her higher education at Harvard University and was the daughter of Edward John Payne. Her doctoral advisor at Harvard was Arthur Eddington, a renowned astrophysicist in his own right.

Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin passed away in Cambridge, Massachusetts at the age of 79.
